Vera Elizabeth Homans Schmidt (nee Sass), age 102 of Lansing, IL, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 27, 2025. She is survived by her grandchildren: Sheryle (Ed) Bozich, David (Susan) Schaub, Susan (Bill) Overton, Deanna (Joe) Zivkovic, Kim (Ron) (Vern) Wright, Lori (Lee) Falstrom, Sheila (Van) Stricklin, Cherilyn Rzonca Homans, Joe Homans, and Matthew Homans; and daughter-in-law: Liz Homans.

Also surviving are her great grandchildren: Anna Overton, Joe Bozich, Trevor (Elise) Bozich, Daniel (Hannah) Schaub, Nicholas (Shelby) Bozich, Natalie (Eliot) Slavic, Rebecca (Matthew) Walters, Nathan (Trina) Young, Michael (Lauren) Young, Luke Young, Jeffrey Cogswell, Jennifer (Brian) Luchon, Kevin (Meghan) Wright, Karissa (Jesse) Oliver, Eddie Falstrom, Erik Falstrom, Emily Jean (Tanner) Carrier, Jessica (Craig) Butcher, Stephanie (Andrew) Hurley, Trisha Stricklin, Christopher (Christine) Lanham, Ashley (Jeremy) Long, Joseph Stricklin, Gabriella Zivkovic, Luka Zivkovic, Steven (Jessica) Stricklin, and Tatiana (Kyle Blatt) Zivkovic.

Vera is also survived by her great great grandchildren: Alice Bozich, Joanna Bozich, Peter Bozich, Emma Bozich, Maddi Kasper, Warren Schaub, Libby Schaub, Walker Young, Wrenili Young, Landon Andrew Alderfer, Landon Aaron Oliver, Owen Oliver, Layla Luchon, Jaxson Oliver, Keira Wright, Malcolm Wright, Alliana Troncozo, Sonny Troncozo, Jace Butcher, Shane Butcher, Andres Jr. Drew, Paxton Lanham, Serenity Catt, Ecko Long, Matthew Homans, and Amanda Homans

Vera is preceded in death by her husband: Joe Homans; daughters: Joanne (Edward) Schaub) and Rita (Arthur) Cain; son: William J. Homans; and great granddaughter: Erica Schoenrock.

Friends are invited to visit with Vera's family on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. Funeral services for Vera will be held on Monday, January 5 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, 18100 Wentworth Ave, Lansing, IL with Pastor John Richy officiating. Vera will be laid to rest with her husband, Joe Homans, in Oak Glen Cemetery in Lansing, IL. Vera was a lifelong resident of Lansing. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She worked as a teller at 1st National Bank in Lansing; she was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles, she loved Honey Buns, Raspberry Coffee Cake, bananas, and black coffee, and she had her hair styled faithfully every two weeks. Before bed every evening she did her daily devotions. She was a devout Christian with an unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus, celebrating His birth on Christmas with her family.

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord. "Plans to proper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29: 11
