Thomas H. McDermott, age 99, formerly of Lansing, IL, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Crystal Lake, IL. He is survived by his three children: Susan Hillegonds (Michael), Jane McDermott-Dienema (James), Thomas J. McDermott; grandchildren Matthew Hillegonds (Courtney) and Sara Hillegonds-Mapes (Benjamin) and great granddaughter, Lillian Mapes. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria T. McDermott; his parents, John and Dorothy McDermott; his sister, Mary K. White; and his brother, Lawrence J. McDermott.

A Christian graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, 11:00 AM, at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL., with Father Bill McFarlane officiating. Tom graduated from Bloom High School, Chicago Heights, IL, in 1942. He was unable to serve in the military due to a medical condition. He instead chose to work in the steel industry. His career started at Republic Steel in the basic open hearth department. He eventually earned a position with Tennessee Products selling alloys and retired as the Western Regional Manager for Airco Alloys in 1986.

Thomas was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. He was also a long time member of Lansing Country Club and Olympia Fields Country Club where he enjoyed playing many rounds of golf and treating his family and friends to wonderful gatherings. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer's – McHenry County, Team: Sunrise of Crystal Lake would be appreciated.
