Syl Sikorski, age 85, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, in his home, Syl was born on May 20, 1938 in South Chicago, IL. He married his loving wife of 65 years, Lucille Sikorski (Janeczko), on September 28, 1958. In addition to his wife, Syl is survived by his daughter Kristine (Carl) Brittingham, son Steve (Stephanie) Sikorski, sister Carol (late David) Kawiecki, sister-in-law Vi Nugent (late Don Nugent), three grandchildren: Garret Brittingham, Reese Sikorski, and Laney Sikorski, who he loved dearly, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sylvester Sikorski Sr. and Maryan Sikorski (Nugent), his brother Don Nugent, sister Jacqueline Tollefson, brother-in-law Ron Tollefson, and brother-in-law David Kawiecki.
Syl served in the US Army Reserves from 1964 to 1970. A devoted employee, he spent 27 years at US Steel South Works in South Chicago, IL and 28 years at Lifting Gear Hire in Bridgeview, IL, where – as a National Sales Manager – he worked up until the day of his death. Over the years he volunteered as an usher at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in South Holland, IL and as a coach to his children on numerous sports teams as they were growing up. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks, Notre Dame, and Catholic League High School football.
Friends are invited to visit with Syl's family on Tuesday, October 24 from 2:00 – 8:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25 beginning with closing Prayers at 10:00 AM at the funeral home and proceeding to St. Jude/Christ our Savior Parish, 900 E. 154th St., South Holland, IL for an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Syl will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a memorial donation in Syl's name to Paralyzed Veterans of America. https://pva.org .
Syl gained his strength in life from his strong faith and trust in the Lord. This allowed him to serve others often, something that he naturally enjoyed. His loss will be felt deeply by his family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and community.
