Samuel Smith, age 87 of Highland, IN, formerly of Lansing, IL, went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 7, 2020, after spending a wonderful day with his family. He is survived by his daughter: Laurel (Herb) Bartels; two sons: Brian (Lori) Smith and Bruce (Jan) Smith; eight grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his six siblings: Gertrude, Ron, Bill, Dorothy, Dave, and Harry. Mr. Smith was preceded to Heaven by his beloved wife of 64 years: Kathryn Smith (nee Swieringa); and his brother: Jack.

Due to the current health environment, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Mr. Smith will be laid to rest in Oakridge Cemetery in Lansing in a private family service. Samuel was a long time member of Grace Church in Lansing where he sang in the choir and was an Elder and VP of the Consistory. He retired from Commonwealth Edison after 40+ years of working as a lineman/foreman. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed.
