On Friday, June 25th, 2021 Heaven became a little more lively with Roman Navar joining the eternal celebration. He was survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ramona Navar. A man of God and loving father to his five children: Maria Yesenia Castellanos (Jose Luis), Maria de Jesus Alvarez (Luis), Adrian Navar, Nataly Navar, and Noe Navar (Michelle). Proud abuelito to Noemi, Joshua, Caleb, Cristian, Lourdes, and Miriam. A caring brother to Blanca, Irma, Carolina, Tino, Jose, and Hector. A cherished tio to so many, a compadre for a lucky few, and a friend to all. Roman fought a long hard battle against ALS, with the help from his faith, and support from family and friends.  Roman's family rests easy knowing that he is now with so many of his friends and loved ones.

Roman Navar was born on November 18th, 1951 in Carreras, Dgo, MX. Starting at the young age of sixteen, Roman came to the United States for work. He spent many years navigating a new country and language as he worked to provide for his family back home. He would spend many years living in different areas of the country; from the east coast to the west, but ultimately settling in the Chicagoland Area. He moved to Lansing in 1991, with his beautiful wife and children. As a parishioner of St. Anthony, he served many years as lector, usher, catechist, Knight of Columbus, and any other role he could. He was a proud member of the Laborers Union Local #2 and would jump at any opportunity to discuss what new project he was working on. His work ethic would be one that inspires many.

Roman was known for his captivating charisma; he had a gift that allowed him to be able to speak and connect with just about anyone. He was known for his incredible sayings that sometimes left you scratching your head and other times left you laughing in tears. His love was not limited to only to those he knew, but strangers as well. Any opportunity to help one in need, Roman was the first one there to lend a hand. Beyond that, Roman was known for his tinkering abilities. There was no problem that could not be solved through one of his creative solutions. When stumped with an issue that seemingly had no solution, he would say "Esto no es nada para un Navar" and proceed to find some sort of way to fix it. He would teach these skills and knowledge to all those around him. His smile, laughter, and knowledge will be missed by all.

A celebration of Roman's life will be held at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road in Lansing, Illinois on Thursday July 1st, 2021 with visitation from 3:00pm until 8:00pm. We encourage all whose lives were impacted by Roman to come and share stories that celebrate how great of a man he was. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Roman on Friday, July 2, 2021, directly at St. Anthony Catholic Church,11533 S. Prairie Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60628 at 10:00 AM with Father Mark J. Krylowicz officiating. Roman will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois.
