Robert R. Malkas, age 82, of Lansing, Illinois, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Beloved brother of Darlene Kadar (nee Malkas), cherished son of the late Joseph and Lillian Malkas (nee Kopercinski) and dear brother-in-law of the late George L. Kadar Jr. Fond cousin and friend to many.
Bob graduated from Fenger High School and attended DePaul University in Chicago where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. Bob retired from Mother of Sorrows High School, Blue Island, IL as a teacher and assistant principal and the Village of Lansing as the Lansing Municipal Airport manager.
He was very active in local politics and was always trying to contribute his knowledge to help improve and protect the residents of Lansing. He wrote articles for The Lansing Journal as well as editorials for The Times. Bob was also an avid reader and wrote two books in the last five years of his life: The Village of Lansing And Its Airport – Past, Present, Future and The Road To Redemption. Bob loved his horses and raced them for many years. His passing is an end of an era. He will be deeply missed.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois. Funeral services for Bob will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the funeral home beginning with 9:00 AM closing prayers then proceeding to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, Indiana for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Bob will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Road, Calumet City, Illinois with final prayers in the cemetery chapel. Bob was loved by many and he will be truly missed.
