Rita Jean Cain (nee Homans), age 75, of Lansing, Illinois passed away peacefully to her heavenly home, Friday, September 16, 2022, after a very difficult battle with cancer. Rita is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, Arthur Cain. Her loving children Kimberly (Ron) Wright, Lori (Lee) Falstrom, Sheila (Van) Stricklin, mother Vera Schmidt, cherished sister Joanne Schaub, whom she "Loved More". Cherished grandmother of twelve: Jeffrey Cogswell, Jennifer (Brian) Luchon, Kevin (Meghan) Wright, Karissa (Jesse) Oliver, Eddie Falstrom, Erik Falstrom, Emily Jean Falstrom, Jessica (Craig) Butcher, Stephanie (Andrew) Hurley, Steven Stricklin, Trisha Stricklin, Joseph Stricklin, and 11 great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was preceded in death by her father Joe Homans, brother William J. Homans, brother-in-law Edward Schaub, granddaughter Erica Schoenrock and her first husband Gerald Lundin.
In honor of Rita's life Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL. Services for Rita will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM, at St. John Lutheran Church, 18100 Wentworth Ave., Lansing with Pastor John Richy officiating. Rita will be taken to her final resting place at Oak Glen Lutheran Cemetery, Lansing, IL.
Rita loved taking care of her family. She was an excellent cook, (Chili Cook Off Champion) and hosted many parties for birthdays and holidays. She spent her free time playing board games, Dice and Cards. Rita loved to admire the many beautful flowers in her backyard. She worked at the American Legion, Post 697 for over 30 years, as well as being a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was loved by many and she will be truly missed.
