Richard "Mike" James, of Lansing, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021, quietly in his home. He was one of 3 children born to Courtney and Jim Carvelli (Stepfather) in Chicago, on June 6, 1941. Mike attended Thornton High School. Shortly after graduation, he tried his hand at Cameo Beauty School, where his goal was "To meet girls." Not having much luck on the dating front that Cameo proposed, Mike joined the National Guard for 7 years and then went on to become a cement finisher. Trading in his knee pads for the cushy life, he began a long career in insurance sales. Mike spent over 20 years at Napleton Cadillac in sales where he happily worked until his last days touching the lives of many.

On January 24, 1970, Mike married his beautiful wife, Diane (Hess) James at Ivanhoe Methodist Church. They had two children together and lived in Dolton until 1984 when they relocated to Lansing, Illinois. Mike and Diane were married for 52 years.

Mikes passion for life was felt by everyone around him. He was an avid sports fan, who thankfully witnessed the Cubs win a world series before he passed. Mike loved rich food and Belvedere on the rocks. He loved animals, a 75-degree day sitting in the driveway, golf, and most of all people. Mikes family extended beyond those of shared blood. They were his friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

Mike is survived by his wife, Diane, and their children Kimberlee (David) O'Connell, Christopher (Abby) James and his canine daughter (Sara). He was Grandpa Louie to his 4 grandkids (Eoin, Mackenzie, Daragh and Cooper) and 3 grandpups. Mikes was a protector and big brother to his youngest sister Nancy Avolio his only surviving sibling.

Mike was at his happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Mike is proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Bardie and countless friends and family that he made along the way. "Appearing one night only" hosting an epic party with stiff drinks and humor at your expense. You are forever in our hearts and memories. "Before you leave you must know you are beloved." "And before you leave remember I was with you."

A  Celebration of Life will be held for Mike on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois from 11:00 to 3:00 PM with a service immediately following. Mike was loved by many and will be truly missed.
