Richard R. Gonzalez, Sr., age 99, of Lansing, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Hartsfield Nursing and Rehab. He was born on October 23, 1926, in East Chicago, Indiana, to Cruz and Francesca Gonzalez.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard R. Gonzalez, Jr., who is married to Susan (nee Skinner) of Lansing, Illinois; his grandson, Nathan R. Gonzalez, who is married to Lisa J. (nee Dykstra) of Lowell, Indiana; his granddaughter, Marlene E. Gonzalez, who is married to Adam Butt, of Chicago, Illinois; his grandson, Levi D. Gonzalez, of Lansing, Illinois; his great-grandchildren: Henry B. Gonzalez (9), Lily E. Gonzalez (5), and Ivy J. Gonzalez (3) of Lowell, Indiana; his sister, Marge Dominguez of Highland, Indiana; his brother, Tony Guerrero, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Francesca Gonzalez; daughter, Marlene F. Gonzalez; his brothers, Ernest P. Gonzalez, Joey Guerrero, Robert Guerrero, Victor Guerrero; his sisters, Irene, Rachel and Ernestine Gonzalez, Gloria Fraire, and Aurora Trinidad.
Richard graduated from Washington High School in 1945; and Drake University in 1952. He was also a proud Army Veteran. He was employed by Ford Motor Company as a Quality Control Supervisor and retired in1988, and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, in Lansing, Illinois. Richard loved to dance, socialize, travel, and watch any type of sports. His favorite sports team was the Detroit Tigers. Above all else, Richard loved his family deeply.
Visitation will be Friday, January 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at All Souls Catholic Parish at St. Ann's Church, Lansing, Illinois, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Kidney Fund.
