Richard C. "Dick" Chappelle, 82, passed away on July 14, 2024. Late of Glenwood, IL. Dick was born in East Chicago, IN on November 14, 1941 to William and Theresa (Kanya) Chappelle. Dick received his Masters of Education from Indiana University. He taught American history and anthropology at Thornwood High School, and American history at Moraine Valley Community College. He was also retired from the US Coast Guard Auxiliary after 32 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Kathleen (Zaversnik), his beloved son Adam (Katie), his dear grandson Nate, nieces Andrea and Laura (Jim), nephew Scott, sisters-in-law Michelle (Van) and Marian, great-niece Julia (Joe), great-nephew Jimmy, and many other special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ed (late Judy) Chappelle.

Per his final wishes, cremation rites were accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations to Paws Critter Crossing in Chicago Heights, IL are appreciated. Dick, also known as Bud and Grandpa Bud, was deeply loved and will be remembered fondly! Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements and care of Richard.
