Obituary

Norma J. Nicklas (nee Miller), age 86, of Sugar Grove, IL took her final breath peacefully and comfortably on Saturday, August 10th, 2024. Norma was a resident of Lansing, IL for her first 73 years of life and will be buried next to her husband of 53 years, Harley Nicklas, at Oak Glen Cemetery in Lansing.

She is survived by her three children: Barbara Nicklas (Margaret Morris) of Winston-Salem, NC, Jeffrey (Holly) Nicklas of McKinney, TX, and Judy (David) Franck of Sugar Grove, IL; and nine grandchildren: Annie, Jill, Grace, Carly, Emma, Daniel, Paige, Rachel and Bradley. Also surviving are her sisters Carol Chambers and Darlene Miller, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends and neighbors who loved her dearly. Norma was preceded in death by her parents: Carl and Nora Miller (nee Schultz); infant daughter, Marsha Jean; and brother-in-law, Robert Chambers.

Norma spent her work career as an Administrative Assistant at several organizations, including working in downtown Chicago directly after high school. After raising her children, she served as the Church Secretary for St. John's Lutheran Church and School in Lansing, IL for 14 years before retiring. Norma's greatest joy came from being a loving, compassionate, and generous mother and grandmother. She excelled at putting the needs of her family and others before her own. She also took great pleasure and pride in decorating her house for each season and holiday; she especially enjoyed buying, collecting, and giving new Hallmark ornaments each Christmas season.

Funeral services for Norma will be held on Saturday, August 17th, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 85 S. Constitution Dr., Aurora, IL with Pastor Matthew Kusch presiding. Interment will be private. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, August 16th from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr, Sugar Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Lutheran World Relief, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
