The family of Nicole Burrus is deeply saddened by her sudden and untimely passing after a brief illness. Nicole was a fun-loving, free spirited individual who loved her extended family and the many friends she made in life. Nicole was madly in love with her fiance, Kyle Gora, and he was madly in love with her. She was passionate about animals, especially dogs and cats. She loved her music, girl-trip travels, extra hot, spicy foods, and especially pickles! Pickles were her comfort food.

Nicole was nicknamed "Coco" in her early childcare group. Coco was a Brownie Scout, played flute in middle school band, performed gymnastics, did cheerleading and volleyball. Nicole was quite an artist and won many art awards in high school. Coco graduated from South Suburban College with her Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. Nicole was recently employed by Premier Childcare Center where she was adored by the babies, children, and co-worker. Miss 'Cole will be terribly missed.

Nicole is survived by her Fiance, Mr. Kyle Gora, of Griffith, IN; her parents, Julie (Turner) and Rex Burrus, sister Alex, and Maternal Grandmother, Patricia (Bradtke)Turner, all of Lansing, IL. Preceding her in passing were her Maternal Grandfather, James Turner of Calumet City, IL and Paternal Grandparents, Ruth (Kettring) and Otis Burrus of Zionsville, IN. Nicole is survived by many Great Aunts, Great Uncles, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, plus many friends.

Nicole's family extends their sincere gratitude to the ICU care team at the University of Chicago Hospitals for the excellent care and professionalism provided to Nicole during her last days.

Visitation and a Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL from 2:00 – 8:00 PM. The service will begin at 6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Memorial donations in Nicole's name may be made to the Humane Society of Northwest Indiana, 421 45th St., Munster, IN, www.humaneindiana.org
