Maria Luisa
Trevino
Oct 10, 1937 — Jan 18, 2026
Hammond
Maria Luisa Treviño Rodriguez, age 88, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. She was born on October 10, 1937, in Weslaco, Texas, and remained a proud Tejana throughout her life. Maria Luisa lived a life defined by hard work, endurance, and quiet strength. As a migrant worker and devoted mother, she carried long days and heavy responsibilities with resolve, rarely asking for help and never asking for sympathy. She gave of herself fully to her family, often placing their needs above her own.
She showed her love through action. Most often through her cooking, filling her home with familiar comforts like fideo, caldo de pollo, arroz, and frijoles. She treasured time with her family and especially delighted in visits from her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her beloved grandpuppies.
From a young age, she dreamed of owning her own store. That dream became a reality when she opened her tiendita, Nena's, at America's Antique Mall in Highland, Indiana. It was a place that reflected her work ethic, independence, and pride.
She raised strong children and grandchildren, teaching them resilience, self reliance, and perseverance by example. Her strength was steady and practical, rooted in love and lived experience.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clemente and Marcelina Rodriguez; her daughter, Felicia Salinas; her great grandson, Paul E. Olivares, whom she adored and admired; her brother, Clemente "Pache" Rodriguez Jr.; and her sister, Ricarda Lugo.
She is survived by her children, Leticia, Carmen, Lydia, Maria Estella (Steve), Maria Luisa, Edna (Emigdio), Jessica (Fred), Francisco (Maria), Tessa (Robert), and Jose (Michelle); her siblings, Estanislado Rodriguez, Ernesto Rodriguez, Jose Angel Rodriguez, Eliberto Rodriguez, Anita Villarreal, Irene Marquez, Guadalupe Valero, and Marcelina R. Medina; along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren who will carry her legacy forward.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her presence remains in the lives she shaped, the strength she passed on, and the love she gave without condition. Services for Maria will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026 from 2:00 – 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. The funeral service will begin at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
