Margaret Wise
(Nee Weyhmueller)
Mar 16, 1932 — Apr 23, 2025
Lansing
Margaret Wise (nee Weyhmueller), age 93, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, in Bloomingdale, IL. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Lansing, and lived in Bloomingdale, Illinois since 2023, in a long term care facility where her son Tom also lived and next door to the group home where her son John had lived.
Margaret is survived by her sons Paul Strasen, Michael Wise, and Thomas Wise; her daughter in law, Judy Strasen; her grandchildren Sarah Strasen (and Sarah's husband Peter) and Karl Strasen; and her great grandchildren, Felix and Sylvie. She was preceded in death by her son, John Strasen.
Marge did many things in her long life. As a young person she often visited her Dad's relatives living in what is now the Old Town area of Chicago and going to the German delis and pastry shops on the North Side.
Marge was for a period of time a Montessori School teacher. She was a licensed practical nurse working as a hospital nurse as well as a private duty nurse, and for many years she ran the Water Department in the Village of Lansing. She was a long time supporter of LARC and often won the award for selling the most ads in the ad book for their annual Appreciation Dinner.
She had a love of music and enjoyed visits to Chicago to hear jazz greats like George Shearing just as much as attending concerts of the Messiah and other sacred music. She had an abiding love of the music of J.S. Bach.
But more than anything else, she was devoted to her children, and she could be a fierce advocate for them when needed. As some of her children often needed special medical treatment and care, she frequently took them to hospitals and doctors in Chicago and often these visits were paired with opportunities for them to enjoy other activities in Chicago, including restaurant visits, trips to see theater events like the annual Christmas Carol staging at the Goodman Theater and of course Cubs games.
Visitation will be on May 9 at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing IL 60438, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m, and Margaret's funeral service will be held on 10:00 a.m. on May 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2505 Indiana Ave., Lansing, IL 60438.
