In Loving Memory of Linda Hayes (nee Luckey)

Linda Marie Hayes, born on April 21, 1950, transitioned peacefully to Heaven on January 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at the Hospice of the Calumet Area Riley Residence. She was a remarkable woman, embodying kindness, empathy, and selflessness throughout her unique and fulfilling life.

Linda's journey began in Chicago, where she graduated from Bowen High School in 1968. She furthered her education, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Southern Illinois University in 1972. Linda's professional career started in South Holland, IL at ECHO School for mentally disabled children, showcasing an early commitment to making a positive impact on the live of others.

In 1973, Linda married James Hayes and welcomed two children into their loving home. Her dedication to family led her to temporarily pausing her career, during which time she welcomed her son, Brian, in 1974 and her daughter, Julie, in 1977. Linda's return to the workforce in 1982 marked a significant chapter as she took on the role of Program Director at LARC in Lansing, IL. This decision was not only professionally fulfilling, but also aligned with her desire to remain close to her family, just 5 minutes from her Lansing home.

Linda's career at LARC was not merely a job; it was a calling. As Program Director at LARC for over 35 years before retiring in 2017, she touched the lives of mentally disabled adults and their families by enriching their lives and ensuring their overall well-being. Her compassion extended beyond the workplace, as Linda devoted herself to various causes and charities, donating whatever she could and more to those in need.

Her lifelong passion for reading and wide-ranging taste in music reflected Linda's rich and diverse interest. She found joy in Broadway musicals and attended numerous concerts by artists like Neil Diamond and James Taylor. Linda's love for literature and the arts enriched her life and resonated with those around her. Linda devoted herself to her family and friends, especially her grandkids, to whom she was affectionately known as "Mimi", per her request. Linda's generosity knew no bounds. She always knew what to say and was known to send cherished handwritten cards to anyone who needed support and love.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents: Anne and William Luckey and 17-year-old granddaughter: Lauren. She is survived by her husband, James Hayes, son Brian (Lois), daughter Julie (Luis Santana), grandson Michael, sister Lois (Dave Treiber), brother Bill, and nieces and nephews.

In honoring Linda's wishes, there will be no traditional services. The family will take time to consider a further gathering to celebrate her life. Linda's family requests that donations be directed to Comer Children's Hospital, a place close to her heart that provided care for her granddaughter, Lauren.

Linda's impact on the lives of those around her is immeasurable. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. Heaven has gained a truly special angel and Linda's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
