Leroy "Roy" J. Singleton, age 99, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at his home with his dedicated and loving wife by his side. He was born on September 28, 1923, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Roy was the son of Alberta and Herbert Singleton. He moved to Chicago, Illinois at a young age and attended Dusable High School. Roy accepted Christ at St. Anselm Roman Catholic Church on 60th and Michigan, where he received his first communion and baptism. After high school, Roy enlisted in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, Roy started his window washing business called Singleton Service. He later began working as a Press Printer for the Chicago Tribune with a starting salary of $0.46/hour. Roy was part of a group of employees offered a "lifetime guarantee" at the Tribune and retired after 46 years of employment. He was "the last man standing." After his job as a press printer was phased out, Roy was transferred to a position in protective services. He retired from the Tribune after his position in protective services was outsourced to another company.

Roy is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 26 years, Elisa, who cared for him until he entered his eternal rest; his two bonus daughters: Stephanie, and Stacey (Michael); three daughters: Lauralynn (Robert), Cynthia (Ricky), and Pamela (Rodney); two grandchildren: Seth and Sarah, who affectionately called him "Paw Paw;" his dear friend LaRez Coney-Bradley; and a host of friends and family.

He is welcomed into eternity by his parents, his only son Leroy Singleton, Jr., his brother Herbert Singleton, Jr., and his cousin/dear friend Oliver "Sonny" Holliday. Roy belonged to the "Business Man Club" that met almost daily at the South Side YMCA. He enjoyed watching Westerns and football from the comfort of his recliner. Roy, who previously cooked Sunday dinner weekly, enjoyed to eat comfort food and creole favorites. Most of all, Roy loved spending time with his doting wife. Roy and Elisa travelled extensively during their marriage, celebrating their yearly anniversary with a cruise. Roy also enjoyed taking his wife dancing weekly on Wednesdays at Mr. G's on 87th and Ashland.

Friends may visit with family on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois. Funeral services for Roy will be held, Saturday, February 11, 2023, at All Souls Catholic Parish at St. Ann Church, 3010 Ridge Rd., Lansing, Illinois for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Roy will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, Illinois.
