Layne T. Planer, age 64, of Gary, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on October 8, 2026 at his residence.  

Layne is the loving son to Glenys Strainer and Thomas Planer; cherished step-son the William Herman; devoted brother to Chad Planer, Sherry Planer, the late Wayne Planer; brother-in-laaw to Caroline Planer; uncle to Kenna and Jacob Planer.

Layne is a 1980 graduate of Calumet High School.  He will be fondly remembered with his positive attitude and cheerfulness and his love for the color purple.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
