With heavy hearts, the family and friends of Laurence J. Fahey are very saddened to announce his passing on April 25, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on November 24, 1945, Larry was raised in Lansing, Illinois. He was a long-time resident of Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhoods and, in recent years, of Munster, Indiana. He was a cherished and loving brother to his sisters Kathleen (John) Kern and Margaret (Mack) Miller. He will be deeply missed and his memory honored by his nieces and nephews: Sarah (Kevin) Whitley; Morgan (AJ) Milton; Megan Kern; Michael (Natalya) Miller; and John Michael (Francois) Kern; plus by his loving grand-nephews Jackson, Graham, and Alister Whitley. Laurence was preceded in death by his parents John J. and Margaret (Freer) Fahey.

His education began at St. Ann School in Lansing and continued at Thornton Fractional South High School. Larry then transferred to Quigley Seminary in Chicago and spent the next number of years in the seminary system for the Archdiocese of Chicago. From college there, he went on to obtain a graduate degree in theology at St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein. Later, upon leaving the seminary system, Larry earned another Master of Science in Teaching degree from the University of Chicago.

His career then began as a teacher at St. Ann School in Lansing, progressed to become Assistant Principal of St. Christopher School in Midlothian, and principal of St. Patrick School in Joliet. He further moved on to become a business manager, and he's been on the executive side of many other organizations, including Glenwood School for Boys, Arden Shore in Lake Bluff, Howard Brown Medical Center in Chicago, and two large Catholic parish/school complexes. From there, he concentrated on facilities management, eventually becoming Executive Director of Facilities at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

In retirement, Larry enjoyed extensive travel, more reading time, renovation projects in his lovely home, and gardening. He was deeply knowledgeable about Chicago history, architecture, and about his beloved St. Clement Church where he was an active member for 46 years. Remembered for his kindness and support, he treasured his family and friends and will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Clement Parish on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with a Visitation preceding it from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. The church is located at 642 West Deming in Chicago. The burial service on Saturday, May 4, is at Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, Illinois, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Clement Church or to the University of Chicago Alumni Association.
