Kathy "Rita" Marcinkevich, age 76, of Calumet City, Illinois, passed away on July 31, 2025. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents William and Edwina Marcinkevich. She is survived by her longtime life partner, Peg Haney; brother Bill (Sue) Marcinkevich; nieces Amanda (Jerry) Buchanan; Sarah (Dan) Szablewski; nephew Bill; and niece Robin (Michael) Spatola. Also ten great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, and many lifelong friends. Kathy "Rita" as she was affectionately known, touched countless lives with her warmth, laughter and an extraordinary capacity for building deep lasting friendships.

Kathy was a former bartender, waitress, phlebotomist, and admirably earned her degree in Occupational Therapy later in her life. Throughout her vibrant life, Kathy "Rita" enjoyed playing softball, flag football, bowling and golf, all of which were a catalyst for developing a beloved circle of friends. Kathy cherished those friendships, cultivating them at each stage of her life, with most lasting the remainder of her life. She had the uncanny ability to connect with all kinds of people and was proudly known as the cornerstone of many of her favorite watering holes.

Kathy "Rita" lived life to the fullest and left us with a legacy of stories, laughter and love. She was a true original, always ready with a smile and a joke. Her joyful spirit will be deeply missed, but the countless cherished friendships and memories she created will forever warm hearts. One of Rita's favorite sayings was, "I have friends I haven't met yet.". Indeed, how blessed are the many who called her friend and how lucky are the ones she will soon encounter.

A celebration of Rita's life and the lasting impact of her many friendships will be held at a later date, where stories and memories will be shared.
