John Strasen, age 63, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at the University of Chicago Hospitals in Chicago after suffering a stroke.

John lived in Lansing with his mom and brothers until 2023 when he moved to Bloomingdale, Illinois and lived at Alden Trails, a group home next door to the long term care facility where his mom, Margaret Wise, and brother, Thomas Wise, are living.

John is survived by his mother, Margaret Wise, his brothers Paul Strasen, Michael Wise, Thomas Wise, and Marty Strasen, his sister in law, Judy Strasen, his niece Sarah Strasen and her husband Peter Moench, and their children Felix and Sylvie, and his nephew Karl Strasen. He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Strasen, and by his stepfather, Jan Wise.

Although John enjoyed watching all sports and was a Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks fan, he was above all else a devout, lifelong Cubs fan. He attended many Cubs games with his family and friends, collected numerous baseball caps, shirts and memorabilia, and personally met such Cubs players and celebrities as Ernie Banks and Harry Caray. John's name is included in a permanent paver stone in the sidewalk surrounding Wrigley Field.

John attended the Oak Glen School in Lansing and the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy School for Exceptional Children in Palos Park, IL. He worked at LARC in Lansing for over 40 years. More recently, he attended a workshop day training program in Bloomingdale, IL.

John's family will miss watching sports, eating pizza and celebrating each other's birthdays with him, which were among his favorite activities. They will also miss his warm smile and friendly disposition.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 18 at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing IL 60438, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and John's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 19 at 10:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2505 Indiana Ave., Lansing, IL 60438. John will be interred at Oak Glen Cemetery in Lansing.
