Obituary

John A. Haney, age 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025. John was a lifelong resident of Calumet City. He was a 1947 graduate of Thornton Fractional High School. He served in the U.S. Army. Upon completion of his service, he went to work for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. where he was employed for 33 years. He was a 4th degree member of the Cardinal Stritch Assembly #205; 3rd degree member of the Lansing Knights of Columbus #3540; and a member of the American Legion Post #330.

John was married to the love of his life Genevieve for 69 years before her passing. John is survived by his five children: Richard Haney; Jean (Pete) Dornon; Margaret "Peg" Haney; Karen (Barry) Kekelik; Patty (Scott) Guffey. He was a grandpa to Kelly (Ryan Vawter) Haney; John Kekelik; Barry "Chip" Kekelik; Nicole (Matthew von Werder) Kekelik; Brett (Katelyn) Guffey. Also, proud great grandpa to Duke Guffey. There are also many surviving nieces and nephews.

John was one of seven children. Surviving sisters Mary (late Eugene) Fortson; Marcella (late Bob Follman; late Bob Perry); sister-in-law Sandy (late Ray) Haney. John was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Helen Haney, Sr., brother Harry "Bud" (late Dorothy) Haney, Jr.. sisters Helen (late James) Fredianelli; and Jean Haney.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, April 1st from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL. Funeral services for John will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2025 DIRECTLY at Jesus Shepherd of Souls, (Our Lady of Knock Church), 501 163rd street, Calumet City, Illinois for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. John will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois. John was loved by many and he will be truly missed.
