John J. Hagen, age 74, of Lansing, Ill, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Saturday October 15, 2022. John his survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 29 years. John is survived by his son Jeffery (Kris) Hagen. Proud grandfather to Jacob, Kennedy, Keira and Kerri Hagen. Loving brother to Neil, Ron (Barb), Amy Hintosh and Sue Donner. Proud brother in law of Beverly (late John) Kandron, Kathy (Ron) Bohse. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth Hagen, daughter; Carrie, in-laws Casimer and Sadie Brzeczek, brother Bob (Gail), sister; Netta Baitis and Jean (Tim) Mayer. Proud uncle to Heather (Frank) Kkuligowski, Holly (Tom) Schaul, Sara Hagen, Amy Bennett, Cathy (late Jim) Witte.

In honor of John's life, friends and family will gather on Tuesday October 25, 2022 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. A memorial service honoring John will begin at 7:00 PM, at the Schroeder Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing Il. A Private burial at Oakland Memory Lanes Cemetery, Dolton, IL, will be conducted on Wednesday October 26, 2022.

John was born at Mercy Hospital in Chicago and grew up in Roseland. During his youth he enjoyed playing softball and raced micro midgets at Raceway Park. He liked to hunt with his dad and brother Bob. John graduated from Fenger High School Class of 1966 where he played on the Titans football team at Palmer Park. In his later years he enjoyed camping and playing golf at Pineview golf course in Monticello In. He was a diehard Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Blackhawks. He was even given the nickname of Blackhawk John at his favorite watering hole. He was a history buff thanks to his Dad who raised him and his brother and took them to all of the museums to give them a little culture. He even saw the Fabergé Egg exhibit in Chicago. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy serving from 1968 – 1973. Stationed in San Francisco and served time in Vietnam. One of his favorite past times was sitting in his yard with his rescue dogs Peanut and Buck. John also was Preceded in death by his furry friends; BJ, Squirt, Knucklehead and Buddy.

The Hagen family would like to thank all of his friends and family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society or Happy Tails Animal Care Center in Monticello, In. would be greatly appreciated. John was loved by many and he will be truly missed.
