John Joseph Busse age 97 of Calumet City, Illinois passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. He is survived by his loving sister Louise (late Elmer) O'Keefe. Loving Uncle to 3 generations of nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Busse and siblings Clarence (late Marie), Joseph, Betty (late John) Dorkin and Richard.
John proudly served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired from RR Donnelley and was a faithful Usher at St Victor's Church. His fondest memories were at the White Sox Game when he was honored for his military service as Hero of the Game in 2022, attending his nieces and nephews sporting events, family gatherings, playing Video Poker at his favorite casino, and feeding generations of stray cats.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services for John will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, beginning with closing prayers at 9:30 AM at the funeral home then proceeding to Jesus Shepherd of Souls (Our Lady of Knock Church), 501 163rd Street, Calumet City, Illinois for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Father Patrick Lyons officiating. John will be laid to rest at St. John/St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.
