Joan M. Surdell, age 88 of Burnham, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 12, 2026. She is survived by three sons: Allan (Karen) Surdell of Heber City, UT, Mark Surdell Sr. of Ft Wayne, IN, and Gregg Surdell of Naperville, IL. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Alexa (Trevor) Ferrari, Kyleigh (Ryan) Stewart, Brianna Surdell, Zachary (Madison) Surdell, and Mark Jr (Cheyenne) Surdell; and great grandchildren: Logan, Luke, Halsten, Stetson, Houston, and Bentley. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard; and two brothers: Allen and James Wawrzyniak.

Friends are invited to visit with Joan's family on Wednesday, March 18 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 19 at All Soul's Catholic Parish (formerly St. Ann Catholic Church), 3010 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. Joan will be laid to rest next to her husband in Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.

Joan was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church for many decades and volunteered to serve the Parish and school in many activities. She enjoyed bowling and was on a league for many years. Joan was also an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend and will be missed.
