Jean Haney, age 97, passed away on January 28, 2025. Jean was a lifelong resident of Calumet City, Illinois. Born there on January 12, 1928. She was one of seven children born to Harry and Helen Haney.
Jean was a graduate of St. Victor's and Thornton Fractional High School. Upon graduation she began working as a secretary for Catholic Charities. She moved to Kern's United; and finished her career at Woodrow Wilson Grammar School.
She is survived by her sister Mary Fortson (late Eugene); brother John Haney (late Genevieve) and sister Marcella Follman-Perry (late Robert Follman; late Robert Perry). She had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who will remember her fondly.
Jean was preceded in death by her brother Harry (Bud) Haney (late Dorothy); sister Helen Fredianelli (late James); brother Ray (Sandy); nieces Bonita, Jacquelyn, Theresa; and nephew Mark. Also great nephews Jason and Joshua.
Jean enjoyed talking with people and listening to their stories. She was a devout catholic with strong beliefs in the church. She was very passionate about current events, especially politics. However, her biggest love was for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team. "Go Irish".
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, February 3, 2025, DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Knock Church, 501 163rd Street, Calumet City, Illinois from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial with Father Patrick Lyons immediately following. Jean will be laid to rest at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Glenwood, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude or Catholic Charities would be appreciated. www.schroederlauer.com
