Janet Viers (nee Dobda, formerly Moffat) age 66, of Schererville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her son, Andrew Moffat of Schererville, IN., and brother Leonard Dobda of Homewood, IL. Janet was preceded in death by her parents Edward Dobda, Sr. and Lola Dobda (nee Fisk); Brothers Richard and Ed (Butch) Dobda; paternal grandmother Mary Dobda, maternal grandparents: Clarence and Susie (nee Wright) Fisk, and many aunts and uncles.

Janet was Born June 30, 1959 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, she spent her childhood growing up in Lansing, IL and enjoyed spending summers with family in Minnesota and Iowa. Janet graduated from TF South High School in 1977, and briefly lived in Lynwood, before settling with her family in Park Forest, where she spent many years. During this time Janet graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and spent several years working in Chicago for Anderson Consulting (which later became Accenture).

Growing tired of the hustle and bustle of working in the city, Janet decided to return to school to pursue her lifelong passion of helping others. In 2006 she graduated from the Jane Addams School of Social Work, at the University of Illinois Chicago, with a Master's degree in Social Work. She then relocated to Northwest Indiana and began her own private practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist, with offices in Valparaiso and Munster. In her free time, Janet enjoyed practicing and teaching yoga, traveling, attending concerts, spending time with friends and family, and being a loving, and caring mother. She is very much loved, and will be deeply missed.

Friends are invited to visit with Janet's family on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. The funeral service for Janet will being at 12:00 noon with Deacon Jim Renwick officiating. Janet will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood, IL.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Janet's name to the Jane Addams College of Social Work or the EMDRIA Scholarship fund.
