Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, James "Jim" LaRoe Hunt passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.

Jim devoted 30 years of hard work to Bliss and Laughlin Steel Mill as a crane operator and material handler, a role he took pride in, providing for his loved ones with unwavering commitment. Beyond his career, his greatest joy in life was his family. Jim beamed with pride for his sons and their wonderful families, treasuring every moment spent with them. His love extended beyond people—to his cherished convertible and his loyal dogs, which he considered his "other babies."

Jim shared 40 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dawn (Cunningham) Hunt, building a life filled with love and laughter. He was a devoted father to James "Jimmy" Hunt, Franklin "Frankie" Hunt, Shaun Hunt, and Joseph "Jojo" Hunt. He was also a proud grandfather to Dominic Gard, Wyatt Evans, Elince "Dee" Perez, Squibel Perez, Joserick "Jay" Serrano, and Jazmine Garner, and a great-grandfather to Quinten Perez, Kensley Garner, and Kailey Garner. His family was his world, and he never missed a chance to brag about their accomplishments.

A natural jokester and a jack of all trades, Jim had a way of bringing smiles to those around him. Whether fixing things, cracking jokes, or lending a helping hand, he left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him. A longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church, his faith was a guiding force in his life, shaping the kindness and generosity he shared with his community.

Jim was a self-proclaimed "garage monkey," happiest when he was tinkering for hours on his vehicles. He also loved fishing—though only from a boat, as anything else simply wasn't his style. And while he could work a wrench with skill, he was just as skilled at stirring the pot on Facebook, always ready with a quick wit or a playful jab.

Jim's heart was also big enough for his four-legged companions, and he adored his loyal dogs throughout the years—Cassy, Candy, Rusty, Ginger, Misty, and most of all, Parker. They were his steadfast companions, bringing him joy and comfort through every stage of life.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Dawn, his sons, Shaun and Joe, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Debbie, Danny, and Kitty. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the laughter of his family, the memories they cherish, and the lasting impact he made on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Jim's life was one well-lived—full of love, devotion, and humor. May he rest in peace, with our Lord Jesus and his family who has gone before him. His legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved him.

The Visitation Hour will begin at 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with services immediately following on Saturday, April 26, 2025 DIRECTLY at Fellowship Baptist Church, 148 W. 26th Street, South Chicago Heights, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to stay for a fellowship luncheon at the conclusion of the service and will end promptly at 2:00 PM. James was loved by many and he will be truly missed.
