James Hlebek age 78 of Dyer, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, April 29 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Dawn Zebrauskas); daughter Jennifer Ramirez; three grandchildren Jordan (Tyler) Dykes, Ricky Ramirez and Delaney Hlebek and one great-grandson, Kian Dykes; brother John (Pat) Hlebek and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hlebek was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Hlebek and parents John and Victoria.

Funeral services for James will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 beginning with 9:30 AM closing prayers at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing and proceed to (All Souls Parish) St. Ann Catholic Church, 3010 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Father Mark Kalema officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

James was a proud Vietnam veteran. He served his country in the Army. He was also a proud member the local Vietnam Veterans group and enjoyed their fellowship. Mr. Hlebek worked at Sherwin Williams as a lift truck mechanic, he enjoyed being around his family and tinkering around with cars and home repairs. He often said he could fix anything except a broken heart. In lieu of flowers a donation to Vietnam Veterans of America or any other Veteran organization.
