Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James R Cox of Dyer, Indiana. Jim passed away at home on December 13, 2023. Jim was born on January 5, 1946, to Marjorie Ann (Logsdon) Rowe and Orval A. Cox. He is survived by his wife, Wanda J Cox, and His sister, Elizabeth Ann Hutchison. Son Robert D. Cox, stepfather Michael Rowe. Uncle Don Logsdon; Grandchildren Aubri D. Cox, James W.S. Cox, Ashely Melcic; nieces and nephews Micheal Devries, Steven Devries, Jenifer Cox, and Becky Cox 5 great-grandchildren. His role as a husband, father, and grandfather was cherished, and his love and guidance will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by both parents, Orval A. Cox and Marjorie Rowe, and brother, Ronald W. Cox.

Jim, a man of honor and courage, was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Army from 1964 to 1972. He bravely served two terms in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. His service to our country is a testament to his bravery and dedication.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted for James on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with military honors immediately following at 11:00 AM, at Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois.

Jim's passion for auto racing was not just a hobby but a part of his soul. It was a lifelong pursuit spanning many decades. He found immense joy in building oval track race cars and sharing the thrilling stories of his racing adventures at various tracks. His love for auto racing was infectious, and his stories always left us with a sense of nostalgia and fondness. His ability to inspire and guide others towards their goals, particularly children, was a testament to his character. His knowledge and love will be deeply missed. His memory will forever remain in our hearts until we are all reunited in eternity. We urge you to honor his memory by showing Jim's selfless compassion for those we encounter daily.
