Ildefonso (Alfonso) Salgado Jr., age 61 of Schererville, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Diana (nee Duran) and sons Alex and Justin Salgado. Also surviving are his sisters: Antonia Salgado, Teresa Campos, Graciela Venegas; brothers: Victor Salgado and Adolfo Salgado; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ildefonso was preceded in death by his parents, Ildefonso Sr. and Serafina Salgado and sisters: Margaret Salgado and Carmen Salgado.
Ildefonso was born on January 28, 1965 in Chicago, IL. He grew up in South Chicago and eventually settled with his family in Schererville, IN. Ildefonso was a hard worker and retired from AT&T after 25 years of service. A devoted husband and family man, Ildefonso was always there for his wife and children, and loved unconditionally. Ildefonso enjoyed sharing laughs and good times with his family during the numerous cookouts and parties over the years. He was an avid sports fan of the Bears, Cubs, and Bulls. Ildefonso will be remembered by many for his sense of humor. During the summers, he enjoyed bike riding, concerts, baseball games, and car shows. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who knew him.
Friends are invited to visit with Ildefonso's family on Thursday, May 7 from 3:00 – 8:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. His funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8 beginning with closing prayers at 9:30 AM at the funeral home and proceeding to All Souls Catholic Parish (formerly St. Ann), 3010 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Ildefonso will be laid to rest in St Casimir Cemetery, 4401 W. 111th St., Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, Ildefonso's family would be touched by any contributions made in his name to the American Cancer Society ( www.cancer.org ).
