Henry "Hank"
Huizenga
Jan 22, 1940 — Oct 25, 2024
Tolono
Henry "Hank" Huizenga, 84, of Tolono, IL, passed away in his home with loved ones by his side on October 25th, 2024 and is now continuing a love story in heaven with his wife, Carol Huizenga (nee Fisher) of 64 earthly years. He was born in Munster, IN to Joe and Coba Huizenga on January 22nd, 1940. He attended Thornton Township High School but left to work on his family's farm, achieving his GED at a later date. After getting married, Hank was drafted into the Army in 1961. His next three major proud moments were adopting two sons and the birth of his daughter.
As a patient and loving father, Hank worked hard in several careers throughout the years to provide for his family: farmer, car salesman, and mechanic to name a few. He retired in 2001 as a service technician for Hotsy, a family company he cherished. His favorite pastimes were cars, pitching softball, fishing, camping, drinking coffee, going out for breakfast, playing cards, garage sailing, collecting antiques, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
In his early years, Hank was a faithful member of Munster Christian Reformed Church in Munster, IN. In 2003, he joined the Tolono Presbyterian Church in Tolono, IL. As a great example to everyone around him, he always paused before a meal to bow his head in prayer, whether at home or in a restaurant. He never met a stranger; always quick to smile at, wave at or shake hands with anyone. He also never met a dog who didn't absolutely love him; always quick to pet them and enjoyed slobbery kisses in return.
Hank was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and grandson, Ryder Huizenga. He is survived by his sisters, Grace DeYoung Bergsma, Joyce Quigley, and Johanna (Jerry) Tanis, daughter Dawn Huizenga, sons Duane (Kerry) Huizenga and Mark Huizenga, and grandchildren John Flavin, Shannon Flavin, Marley Huizenga, and Corina Huizenga.
