Helen grew up in the shadows of the U.S Steel Mills in South Chicago. She was first educated at St. Mary Magdalene Elementary School, followed by St. Peter & Paul High School. During this time, she found herself excelling in mathematics, soon finding work at Household Finance Company with such skills. She married on May 6, 1961. The family she always wanted soon followed with first-born Laura, followed by her only son Joseph, then completed with youngest, Jill.
After she raised her family, Helen returned to school and proudly received a nursing degree from South Suburban College. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Margaret Hospital, Hammond Clinic, and Alden Estates Rehabilitation. She had a passion for helping patients and making their lives comfortable while in her care.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, her independence, her decorated home, and baking which she most enjoyed sharing with family and friends. She lived with gratitude, kindness, sweetness, and love. Those who were able to enjoy her wonderful presence in their lives will miss her dearly. Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements and care of Mrs. Ulanowski. Www.schroederlauer.com
