Greg Allen Compeau, born January 17, 1953 (69 years old), passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at his home in Lansing, IL. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Jane Compeau (nee Dokter) and their children: Jennifer (Chris) Voccia and Cynthia (Blaine Bugaski) Compeau, grandchildren: Parker Sarkady, Chloe Sarkady and Miles Voccia, niece Kerry (Ples) Dunn (nee Strohmeyer), and Mother-in-law Lydia Dokter. Greg is also survived by many beloved brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Kenneth and Josephine Compeau (nee Kippen) and sister Sharon Camacho (nee Mullally), nephews Jeff, Scott and Mark Strohmeyer and father-in-law Reverend Bernie Dokter. Greg will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Greg spent his working life in trucking at Ruan, starting as an apprentice diesel mechanic and quickly progressing to journeyman mechanic. After a life-altering injury, he became a parts manager, service manager and worked his way up to terminal manager. After retiring he dedicated his time to serving his church as a deacon for many years.
Greg was a talented musician playing the saxophone as a child and guitar as a teen and adult. He also played drums and bass guitar – music was a constant throughout his life. He was a member of his school's marching band, many garage bands, and he used his talent to serve the Lord in praise bands at Emmanuel Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed golfing with friends and family and was an accomplished woodworker, building many items to last 100,000 miles. He also loved following drag racing, camping, scale modeling and maintaining his home.
His wife was the light of his life and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved the pets he had throughout his life: dogs Baron, Pokey, Cubby, Jake, and Danny; cats Bum, Hobo, Tramp, Skeezix, and Bob; and turtle, Clydee.
There will be a visitation at Emmanuel Christian Reformed Church, 22515 Torrence Ave., Sauk Village, IL on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM.
