Obituary

Fred Marhoefer, age 95, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Jeanne (Meyer) Marhoefer. Loving father of Peggy, Lisa (Danny Barker) and Jim (Dana) Marhoefer. Cherished grandfather of Lauren Marhoefer. Caring cousin and uncle. Fred was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Marhoefer, Parents Jacob and Magdalena Marhoefer, brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Pearl Marhoefer and Eric and Maynette Marhoefer.

There will be a 12:30 PM graveside service with military honors for Fred on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, 6001 West 111th Street, Alsip, IL 60803, with Deacon Jim Renwick officiating. Meet outside the office at the cemetery at 12:15 PM and the cemetery personal will lead us to the grave. The Graveside service will begin at 12:30 PM. Luncheon following at Jenny's Steakhouse, 11041 Menard Avenue, Chicago Ridge, IL 60415.

Fred was a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather. Family was very important to him. Fred was a hardworking man. When his family immigrated to America from Germany in the 1930's, they founded JR Marhoefer & Sons Meat Packing Plant. He was a bank courier while living in Florida, a job he enjoyed until age 85. Fred was a World War II Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. Fred enjoyed shooting pool, playing golf, chess and gin rummy. He was an avid Cubs baseball fan. Fred was loved by many and will be truly missed.

Fred was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2012. He resided at the Veterans' Home in Manteno from February 2017 until his death. The family is very grateful for the excellent care that Fred received. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Fred's name to the Veterans' home. Please note on the check made payable to Manteno Veterans' Home that it is in memory of Fred.
