Elaine D. Howes, age 75, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Elaine was born July 27, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. Elaine was a lifelong resident of Lansing, IL. She is survived by her loving husband Ron Howes of 41 years. Her children Kenneth D. (Jen) Newberry, Daniel C. (lady friend, Kim Lamparski) Newberry, and Kristen E. Newberry. Her step-sons Jim Howes and Dan (Eva) Howes. Her grandchildren Kayla (Nate) Petrie, Kori Newberry, Shelby Newberry, Ilana Newberry, Dakota Newberry, Oley Newberry, Cara (Dave) Sutkowski, Jake Howes and Cole Howes. Her great grandchildren Nate Petrie, Jr., Nick Petrie, Nyla Petrie and Charlee Sutkowski, sister-in-law Susan Carlson and many nieces and nephews, especially Lisa (Ted) Massey and Donna (Mark) Even. She is also survived by her special comfort dog Cash. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl Otto and Astrid Virginia (Persson) Carlson also her brother Lawrence H. Carlson.

Elaine was a 1964 graduate of T.F. South High School in Lansing. She was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansing. She was a legal assistant for over 37 years. Elaine and her family owned a summer home in Dowagiac, Michigan for over 20 years and had made many great memories there. Elaine loved an occasional poker game with her kids. She would also like to go to the casino with Ron or her kids. She loved to work in her yard and took pride in all the flowers she would grow each year. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, mosaic art, going to auctions and estate sales and working puzzles and crossword puzzles. Elaine and Ron loved to travel. They have been on over 20 cruises. They visited Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Caribbean, just to name a few. They also went on many road trips including family trips to Wisconsin. Elaine enjoyed life to the fullest, she was kind to all. She loved spending time with family and friends. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her.

A Celebration Of Life will be held for Elaine, Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 7:00 PM with Pastor John Holyer officiating at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois, cremation to follow. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 PM until time of service. Elaine will be truly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elaine's name to the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
