Edith (Stouwie) Hanneman, age 97 of Dyer, IN, formerly of Lansing, IL, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. She was the youngest and last surviving of seven siblings: Edward (Jennie) Stouwie, John Stouwie, Julius Stowie, Hattie Decker, Martha Buursema, and infant sister Edith Stouwie. Edith is survived by nieces and nephews: Kenneth (Marge) Stouwie, Roger (Delores) Stouwie, Shirley VanDyken, John Decker, Eileen (Decker) Swatkowski, Don Decker, Lenore (Albert) Vander Meer, Janice (Randy) Bode, Edward (Mary) Stouwie, Joanne (Gys) Van Baren, and Sharon Derks. Also surviving are numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services for Edith will be held on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. Friends may visit from 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM at the funeral home. Due to Covid it is requested that you limit your visit with the family. Edith will be laid to rest in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Stickney, IL. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Edith's name to Mid-America Reformed Seminary, 229 Seminary Dr., Dyer, IN 46311. Edith had worked for 33 years as a secretary at Sonoco Products Company in Lombard, IL. She became a member of Oak Glen United Reformed Church in Lansing in August 1998. Her greatest joy was time spent with all her nieces and nephews.

Edith wrote the following for the Oak Leaves church paper when she joined Oak Glen URC.

"I have been asked to give a brief history of my life. I grew ups on the West Side of Chicago, the youngest of seven children. My grade school education was received at Ebenezer Christian (Chicago); then on toe Chicago Christian High School in Englewood; and one year of Business College.

After various jobs throughout the years, I was grateful to be able to retire from Sonoco Products Co. in Lombard, IL. The plaque presented on that occasion read: "Awarded to Edith S. Hanneman with grateful appreciation for 33 years of loyal and faithful service." I'm mostly thankful that the Lord led me to Oak Glen Church, where I've met many fine Christian people. Also, I might add (which I am sure most of you already know) my dear nieces attend Oak Glen: Sharon Derks and Kathy West, which is a double blessing.
