Delvin Gaddy age 89, of Lansing, Illinois passed away peacefully January 28, 2020. He is survived by his loving daughter Lisa (David) Peterson. Cherished grandfather of; Tonya (Jason) Gilman, Sarah Gaddy, Heather (John) Dias, and Nicholas Peterson and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear daughter-in-law, Nancy, and his beloved nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois from 10:00 to 12 noon, with a 12 noon funeral service immediately following with Deacon Jim Renwick officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Rd., Calumet City, Illinois at 10:00 AM.

Delvin had a love for music. He especially loved Big Band Music. He was a remarkable trumpet player who was accepted with a scholarship to The Julliard School. Prior to attending, the military had another plan for him. Delvin was a proud member of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. By the recommendation of his high school band leader to his army recruiter, he was snatched up to play trumpet. He played Taps, Ruffles and Flourishes for military personnel and dignitaries. He was humbled to play with entertainers such as Bob Hope and Mitzi Gaynor.

Delvin was the most beautiful man. You couldn't have asked for a more loving, dedicated and wonderful father. He was a father-figure to many of his friends, too. Some of his best times were spent hunting and fishing with buddies the age of his sons. He took great pride in his rose garden always being beautiful and gorgeous year in and year out. He was beyond dedicated to everyone he knew, especially his beautiful granddaughters, grandson and great granddaughters... even the ladies at the rehab all called him grandpa. Delvin worked at Jewel Food Stores his entire career and enjoyed working with everyone. He filled the hearts of so many; his smile will linger in our memories for years to come. It was often joked about with his family, that he would live to be 110. God had different plans. It was time for him to be with his forever sweetheart, his magnificent Rosie, his treasured sons, Mike and Chris and his grandson, Mark.

Dearest Daddy Gaddy, we all love you so very much. You've lived your entire life to raise up your precious family in love, morals and kindness. Del's love was felt everywhere he went; even throughout the neighborhood he was known as "Grandpa."

We all know who the the new gardener in Heaven is now.  May God bless him always and forever.
