Obituary

Coletta J. Kobeszka, age 93 of Lansing, IL, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026. She was born on March 7, 1933 in Chicago, IL, to the late Ethel and Solvan Sylvester. Coletta married Robert Kobeszka on March 28, 1952. They settled in Lansing, IL in 1956 and raised their three children there. Coletta was an avid gardener, skilled seamstress, and an amazing baker. She loved being outside in her yard, which was always a riot of colorful flowers, vegetables, and greenery, which was enjoyed by her whole family.

She never knew a stranger, loved her family dearly, and always had amazing stories to tell about her life. She loved to read and helped to instill that love in future generations. Her great-grandchildren lovingly called her “GG” for great grandma. Although, to hear her tell it, it stood for “goofy grandma”.

Coletta was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Robert Kobeszka; brother: James Sylvester; daughter: Caren Mohr, grandsons: Wayne and Phillip Abell; and beloved sisters-in-law and sisters of the heart: Rosie Kobeszka and Betty Kobeszka.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Sylvester (92); children: Cynthia (Kevin) Houlihan and Robert Kobeszka Jr; grandchildren: Quinn Houlihan, Theresa (Art), Wesley (Candice) Daulton, Kyle (Enedina) Houlihan, and Sheena Latham; great-grandchildren: Austin, Steven, Storm, Zoe, Jasmine, Avery, Natalie, Lucas, Charlotte, and Ceecee; and two great-great grandchildren: Natalia and Jalen; along with various nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to visit with Coletta's family on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 9:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Coletta will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.
