Cheryl Miller, age 80, of Portage formerly of Chicago, Riverdale, Highland and Hammond, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at her home with her loving family at her side.

Cheryl was born July 17, 1946, to the late John and the late Ida Vargo.  On October 2, 1965, she was united in marriage with John Miller.  He preceded her in death in 2014.  She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Tom Harris and a nephew Darren Vargo.

She is the loving mother to Lisa (Michael) McGee and John (Maria Kroener) Miller; proud grandmother to Phaidra (Tom) Horton, Phoebe Duke, Ian Duke and Sam Vargo; devoted great-grandmother to Paige and Riley Horton; cherished sister to John (Marylinn) Vargo; fond sister-in-law to Mary Lou Harris; close cousin and best friend to Ret. US Navy Captain Kathy Callahan.

Cheryl graduated from Bowen High School.  Most of her working years was at Acme Continental Credit Union in Riverdale, where she met many longtime friends. She was a longtime faithful, devoted and faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hammond for many years. Cheryl enjoyed vacationing on fishing trips in Northern Minnesota. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Cheryl is a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be truly missed by all who love her.

Visitation will Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of her memorial service at 11:00 am at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hammond. (7227 Hohmon Ave, Hammond, IN 46324).  She will be laid to rest with her husband in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
