Obituary

Charlene Helen Cox age 93, of Lansing, Illinois went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in Munster, Indiana. She was born on March 14, 1930 , in Hammond, Indiana to the late Charles and Helen Tevis (nee Jonas ). Charlene was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman D. Cox in 1999. Also preceded in death by her beloved sister Betty Horvatich, her only sibling. She is survived by her devoted children, Glen Cox, Greg Cox ( Socorro), Gary Cox ( Cindie) and Gayle Marshall (nee Cox), (was preceded in death by son-in-law Greg Marshall, 1999). She was a cherished grandmother to Stacey St. Bernard,(Chris ), Robert Cox,( Autumn), Kelly Church, Casey Cox, Crystal Kamm,( Nick), Michelle Vergara, ( Rene'), Michael Marshall and Matthew Marshall. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and had many lovely great grandchildren as well.

Charlene was employed by the railroad in Northwest Indiana for a few years before she met and married her beloved husband Norman in 1951. She then became a full time homemaker devoting herself to her husband and to raising their four children. She was very involved with her church and in many clubs, one of which was a braille club that helped to translate bible verses into braille for the blind. Her church commitments as well as her family's well being was always her top priority in life. She spent many years taking her children to countless sporting and educational events and encouraging them from the stands. She continued to do the same even after her children were grown. The family also spent many years enjoying their cottage at Shaffer Lake in Monticello, Indiana, and made many fun memories there together. Charlene was very athletic, enjoying sports and continuing throughout her life to stay physically active. She was a walker for many years and also enjoyed bowling in several bowling leagues well into her 80's. She was an amazing cook and extremely talented in hand crafts such as sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, etc., and spent long hours creating beautiful things for all of her loved ones. She had busy hard working hands that were always ready to help others. Charlene, Mom, Grandma, Bomma, was truly a shining example to us all of what it meant to live an honest and true life. A life well lived. She will be very missed by her family and her many friends and acquaintances that loved her so much.
