Bernice Abrom age 82, born Bernice Johnson was a resident of Lansing, Illinois and formerly of Calumet City, Illinois. Bernice departed on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at her home in Lansing, Illinois. Bernice married her now deceased husband, Fred W. Abrom in 1961. Chicago, Illinois was her hometown for many years. Bernice had 7 children. Howard Nemley (Mary Parker Nemley), Shelia Mickens (Wilbert Michens Jr.), Sharon Abrom, Freda Byrd (Michael Byrd), Marc Abrom, Craig Abrom (Rosvi Abrom) and Keith Abrom. Bernice had 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of loved ones. She is preceded in death by her husband Fred W. Abrom and mother Olivia Woods. Bernice was a homemaker and a phenomenal cook and baker. She loved flowers, gardening, blues and playing Keno. Bernice was a long time resident of the Altgeld-Gardens community where she leaves her memories to be cherished.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services for Bernice will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Gates officiating. Bernice will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois. Bernice was loved by many and she will be truly missed.
